The Declaration Explains It

I was just re-reading the Declaration of Independence. I think it explains in a nut shell exactly what this war is about. We intend to extend the benefits of this document to the world. We are going to end usurpations and despotism.

It is the Jeffersonian ideal which we are all trying (with varying degrees of success) to live up to in America:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

So there it is. The guarentee America is about to extend to the uncivilized world.

Here is a government that say it will not give its citizens their rights. America is officially opposed to such governments. Such moral clarity. Not like the Euros at all.

The amazing thing to me is that Newspeak has
become so endemic that even ordinary people
are using this technique of turning a phrase
into meaning the polar opposite.

To say that "this document" will end usurpations
and control, eg. -- This "document" is being used
to justify usurpations and despotism, as long as
such are BY us, FOR us.

Iraq was the pinnacle of civilization when your
ancestors were still hanging from trees...which
probably wasn't all that long ago, LOL!

If we wanted to extend civilization to the
supposed savages, we would drop-ship recliners
and sneakers - not bomb their children into
oblivion.

The fact that Bush can stand there and distort
the meaning of such words as "freedom", "liberty"
etc. -not to mention PEACE! - which he uses in
place of the word WAR - ie. "We are bringing
liberty and freedom and delivering *peace* (read:
bombs) to a *vital region* (read: oil-producing)
..." is so ghastly and disgusting I can't begin
to express my horror...And the American people
actually think this is somewhat true, that war is
peace, that murder is freedom, that annihilating
people /culture /religions they don't like is like
some kind of great LIBERATION - for THEIR good! -
And you call this Moral Clarity! Appalling.
