Numbering The Days

Harry Reid says the days of the TEA Party movement are numbered.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believes the tea party’s days are numbered.

“The tea party will disappear as soon as the economy gets better. And the economy's getting better all the time,” Reid said in a pre-recorded interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, scheduled to air Sunday.

Reid argued that the tea party “was born” because the economy “is probably the worst it’s ever been except for maybe the Great Depression.”
Uh. If the Federal Government is too big, too intrusive, takes too much in taxes, and does not follow the Constitution how will a better economy change any of that?

Let me remind you Harry of the TEA Party principles:

Fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets.

Now Harry, to his credit, understands that a growing economy is going to help quite a lot in the fiscal responsibility area. But until the budget is balanced that issue will not go away. In fact it may not go away until the National Debt starts declining. That still leaves the Constitutional issues intact and does nothing to wither the regulatory state.

I have your number Harry. You will be gone from the Senate before the TEA Party is no longer a political force in America. You have fewer than 2,191 days to enjoy your recent re-election.

20,000 vs 100

Harry Reid is having a very bad month. After 20,000 showed up in Seachlight, Nevada for the Throw The Bums (including Harry) Out Tour, Harry was only able to get 100 people to come to his rally. That is no typo. Let me spell it out. One hundred.

SEARCHLIGHT-- U.S. Sen. Harry Reid launched his re-election campaign Monday with a sentimental send-off from his hometown of Searchlight, cheered on by more than 100 close supporters.
OK. So it could have been more than 100. It could have been 102 or 103. No mention of whether pets and reporters were counted.

And thanks to Instapundit I found more bad news for Harry.
A new state poll of Nevadans out Monday from Rasmussen Reports confirms what has become increasingly clear in recent weeks: American voters are angry about numerous things and their prime targets of opportunity in 2010 are incumbents.

According to the new poll, fully 62% of Nevadans think it would be a good thing if most incumbents up for reelection across these United States lost this coming November.

An identical 62% of Nevadans also think it would be a good thing if President Obama's recently signed healthcare legislation was repealed; that figure is slightly higher than the national repeal rate.

Unfortunately for Nevada's five-term, 70-year-old senior Sen. Harry Reid, he is not only an....

... incumbent up for reelection this year, he was one of the top driving forces behind Obama's unpopular healthcare legislation. It appears he's going to need those millions from two Obama fundraisers in-state.

In an interview to be broadcast on Fox News on Monday night, Reid sounded defiant, mocking Republican Sarah Palin's speech at a recent tea party in Reid's hometown: "I was going to give a few remarks on the people who were over here a week ago Saturday, but I couldn't find it written all over my hands."

Palin had vowed to thousands of supporters: "We're sending a message to Washington. It's loud and it's clear, and in these upcoming elections we're saying that the big-government, big-debt, Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree is over. You're fired.
It looks to me like Harry will be retiring in Jan. '11. I hope he finds the joys of involuntary retirement as attractive as millions of other Americans do. i.e. painful as hell. But all is not gloom and doom for Harry. He has his government pension to look forward to. Which is something most Americans will be paying for until the day he dies. But I look on the bright side. It is cheaper than having him in Congress.

An Exception

Overheard at The Anchoress:

“I take exception to those saying that Obama, Reid and Pelosi are spending like drunken sailors.

When I was a drunken sailor, I quit spending when I ran out of money.”

Harry Reid Puts In A Bid

If Harry Reid had a voice in picking Illinois' next junior Senator it would not have been Roland Burris.

Days before Gov. Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder, top Senate Democrat Harry Reid made it clear who he didn't want in the post: Jesse Jackson, Jr., Danny Davis or Emil Jones.

Rather, Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sources say the Senate majority leader pushed against Jackson and Davis -- both Democratic congressmen from Illinois -- and against Jones -- the Illinois Senate president who is the political godfather of President-elect Barack Obama -- because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election.

Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero confirmed that Reid (D-Nev.) and U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) -- the new chief of the Senate Democratic political operation -- each called Blagojevich's campaign office separately Dec. 3. Sources believe that at least portions of the phone conversations are on tape.
Ah. The tale of the tape. We will have so much to look forward to in the coming year. It should keep Obama and the Democrats busy with distractions for quite a while.

John Kass of the Chicago Tribune has a really funny column up. He starts a little slow with this opening but it gets much better as it goes on.
Roland "Tombstone" Burris goes to Washington this week as part of the Illinois political freak show, and many of us back home will watch it and feel like cringing, at least at the beginning.

Who among us could not wince at the prospect of Tombstone standing before news cameras, his head bobbing, smiling amiably, chattering nonsensically as is his way, insisting he feels no shame. All he wants is to become a United States senator, and he kissed a tainted hand to get there.

His fellow Democrats may be ready to bar his entrance to the Senate chambers, and politicians will be ready, even eager, to play the race card again. If this happens, the man who sent Tombstone to Washington, Gov. Rod Blagojevich will glory in his opportunity to speak directly to his future jury pool.
So why is Kass calling Burris "Tombstone"? Glad you asked.
Tombstone wants to carve "U.S. Senator" into the side of his granite mausoleum, where he's carved his other accomplishments and minor offices so that his fame will endure forever and ever, the decorated crypt providing a worrisome glimpse into the man who would make federal law.
Well there is way more and the comments are most excellent. Especially from the ones who believe that the Smartest President Elect Ever™ never was involved in any of the shady dealings in Chicago.

Let me say that there only three kinds of politicians in Chicago:

1. Those who have not been caught
2. Those doing time
3. Ex-cons

So far the Smartest President Elect Ever™ falls in the first category. For how long no one knows.

Harry Reid Can't Make Up His Mind

Harry Reid yesterday said McCain's help with the financial crisis was essential. According to a McCain adviser:

"Yesterday, Harry Reid said that consensus couldn't be achieved without John McCain's leadership. John stepped up and is providing that leadership.
Today the Senator from Nevada changed his tune.
A Democrat tells ABC News that, in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, D.C., to work on the Wall Street bailout bill.

McCain this afternoon suspended his campaign and said he would skip the first presidential debate in order to return to Capitol Hill to work on the log-jammed Bush administration legislation, which, as of Wednesday afternoon, was in peril.

McCain had phoned Reid to ask about the prospects of him, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and others to sit down and work together on hammering out a bipartisan proposal.

"Sorry," Reid said to him, a Democrat close to Reid says.
I suppose Obama will be voting absent when it comes to hammering out a deal. Evidently in the Senate he is NOT The One they have been waiting for.

Via E-Mail

I have just received an anonymous e-mail with a link to a site, I Call BS, that purports to have a secret recording of Harry Reid's Secretary from Friday morning. You can listen to the mp3 and judge for yourself. It seems authentic to me.

Some one should tell Rush.

$2,100,100.00

Yesterday I was discussing in Dingy Harry Gets The Bum's Rush how Rush Limbaugh turned the "phony soldier" controversy into cash for the Marine Corps -- Law Enforcement Foundation. When I posted last night (local time) the bidding was up to $850,000+. Today the bidding is closed and the total is, as the headline shows, over two million dollars. On top of that Rush plans to contribute an equal amount to the foundation. Over four million dollars folks. No doubt the moonbats at DU are howling. Howling moonbats. Got to be a new sensation.

You can go to rushlimbaugh.com to find your local station. Today ought to be a lot of fun.
