Big Obama Win Predicted

The pollsters at Gallup are predicting a 13 point win for Obama.

Me? I've looked at their numbers (you should too) and I don't believe them. History will show that the pollsters have been consistently wrong all through the primaries and they will be no better in the general.

Regulation Play

So what is the cause of our current financial miseries?

How did America wind up in its worst financial crisis in decades? Sen. Barack Obama explained it this way last week: "When sub-prime-mortgage lending took a reckless and unsustainable turn, a patchwork of regulators systematically and deliberately eliminated the regulations protecting the American people."

That's exactly backward. Mortgage lending took that "reckless and unsustainable turn" because of regulation - regulation driven by liberals and progressives, not free-market "deregulators."

Pushed hard by politicians and community activists, the regulators systematically and deliberately altered financially sound lending practices.

The mortgage market was humming along just fine when, in the late 1980s, progressives decided that it needed to be "fixed." Their complaint: Some ethnic groups got approved for mortgages at lower rates than others.

In reality, mortgage lenders were simply being prudent - taking care to provide mortgages to those who could best afford to make the payments.

The shift began in 1989, when Congress amended the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act to force banks to collect racial data on mortgage applicants. By 1991, critics were using that data to paint lenders as racist by showing that minority applicants were approved at far lower rates. Banks were "Shamed By Publicity," as one 1993 New York Times headline put it.

In fact, they found a racial disparity only by ignoring relevant data on applicants' ability to make mortgage payments - such as their assets and credit history.
Hmmmmmm. 1993. Who was President then? That would have been W.J. Clinton. And the Majority party in the Congress? That would have been the Democrats.

We now know why the Congressional Black Caucus was so strongly supportive of the shenanigans at Fannie and Freddie. You know, if this get out it could lead to an unwarranted rise in racism. Especially if Obama loses the election. People are in an ugly mood and looking for people to blame. Me? There were a whole lot of Democrats and not a few Republicans in on the swindle.

Eight Is Enough

Evidently, despite the poll numbers, the Obama Campaign is in melt down mode. The ever popular Jane Pauley, a former NBC regular, is not a big enough draw to get many Obama supporters to come have a look. Quoting from the Times of Northwest Indiana about a panel discussion on the economy:

PORTAGE Former television news anchor and Hoosier native Jane Pauley returned to her professional roots Monday during a local appearance on behalf of Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Pauley, who said she worked for the state Democratic Party before launching her successful news career, took part in a panel discussion aimed at touting the benefits of Obama's economic plans for Hoosiers over that of his Republican challenger John McCain.

While the subject matter was complex at times, Pauley occasionally took the opportunity to inject partisan humor into the discussion.

"Why would you want a maverick when you've had a cowboy in the White House for two terms already?" she asked, referring to McCain's description of himself.
She doesn't know that real Americans play cowboys and Indians when they are kids? Or that Maverick was once a very popular TV show? Well it doesn't matter.
Alas, Jane's witty comment didn't enjoy as much currency as it deserved. That's because only eight people showed up for the rally.
According to carnival slang that would be a "blue one". In other words a low turn out appearance as opposed to a "red one" where the crowds are numerous. I think it has to to with Obama's numerous friends who "burned the lot".

Libertarian Republican

Eric Dondero of the Libertarian Republican blog has some very kind words for Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin has long been considered to be a libertarian-leaning Republican. As Mayor of Wasila (Anchorage suburb), Palin was friends with local libertarian Republican elected officials, and worked closely with them on tax cut proposals.

She is known to have spoken to two Libertarian Party meetings in 2004/05. She was endorsed by the Libertarian Party of Alaska in the final days of her race for Governor in 2006, even though the LP had it's own candidate. On election night, Ms. Palin at the Egan Center, went out of her way to acknowledge the Libertarian Party's support in her victory speech. Immediately afterwards, she embraced then LPA Chairman Jason Dowell in the crowd. Dowell, and other Libertarians had stood on street corners waving signs for Palin the final two days.
Eric has an editors note that is very interesting.
Editor's Note - As many of you all know, our own Contributing Writer Adam Brickley of Colorado is the Founder and Chairman of the Draft Sarah Palin for VP Campaign. (I guess, as of this moment the group should happily go defunct.) We are extremely proud of Adam's efforts. And we are proud to have lent our support to Adam, and played a role in this effort.
So who is Adam Brickley? Glad you asked.

Lets have a look at the Washington Post to get some details.
Online, politicians and their supporters both leave digital footprints.

And so it was that yesterday's announcement of Gov. Sarah Palin as Sen. John McCain's running mate led us to Adam Brickley, a young Republican who's a recent graduate of University of Colorado at Colorado-Springs. In Feb. 2007, months before the first-term Alaskan governor, was on anyone's radar screen, the 21-year-old created the blog Draft Palin for Vice President.

Yesterday, much to his own surprise, his dreams were answered. Brickley wrote around 6 p.m. Friday: "Just so that you all know, I did receive a brief phone call tonight from Todd and Sarah Palin. Thanks to them for being so kind."

Earlier today, Brickley told The Trail about the call. "They thanked me for my tenacity," said Brickley, who now lives in Washington, D.C., and works as an intern for the conservative site TownHall.com.

Brickley's blog grew into a Facebook group. In the summer of 2007, when McCain's campaign was languishing and Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson were atop the polls, Brickley also created the pro-Palin Facebook group Draft Palin for Vice President. Today that group lists more than 1,400 grateful members.
Well what do you know. Sarah thinks Adam made a difference.

I think it is now time that the rest of us Libertarian Republicans went out and made a difference.

Riots At The Democrat Convention

I'm giving myself another opportunity to make myself look stupid. (It's a hobby) I'm predicting that if the Democrat Congress doesn't shut down the war (they won't) there will be massive riots at the Democrat Nominating Convention in Denver.

So let me see. What I need are a few sock puppets and access to some lefty blogs. Maybe a catchy song "Won't You Please Come To Denver". We can save the world.

Winning

I just read a bit touting Bill Richardson as a strong Democratic contender for President. Here is a bit of what he stands for:

...he advocates complete and total withdrawal of troops from Iraq within six months...
You don’t make babies or win wars by total withdrawal.

Valerie Solanas

Anybody remember Valerie Solanas? Founder of SCUM. The Society for Cutting Up Men. Writer of the SCUM Manifesto.

Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and destroy the male sex.

It is now technically feasible to reproduce without the aid of males (or, for that matter, females) and to produce only females. We must begin immediately to do so. Retaining the mail has not even the dubious purpose of reproduction. The male is a biological accident: the Y (male) gene is an incomplete X (female) gene, that is, it has an incomplete set of chromosomes. In other words, the male is an incomplete female, a walking abortion, aborted at the gene stage. To be male is to be deficient, emotionally limited; maleness is a deficiency disease and males are emotional cripples.

The male is completely egocentric, trapped inside himself, incapable of empathizing or identifying with others, or love, friendship, affection of tenderness. He is a completely isolated unit, incapable of rapport with anyone. His responses are entirely visceral, not cerebral; his intelligence is a mere tool in the services of his drives and needs; he is incapable of mental passion, mental interaction; he can't relate to anything other than his own physical sensations. He is a half-dead, unresponsive lump, incapable of giving or receiving pleasure or happiness; consequently, he is at best an utter bore, an inoffensive blob, since only those capable of absorption in others can be charming. He is trapped in a twilight zone halfway between humans and apes, and is far worse off than the apes because, unlike the apes, he is capable of a large array of negative feelings -- hate, jealousy, contempt, disgust, guilt, shame, doubt -- and moreover, he is aware of what he is and what he isn't.
Well, it gets better or worse depending on your point of view.

So the relevance of this to current events? It looks like the John Edwards campaign has hired what appears to be a Valerie Solanas clone, Amanda Marcotte. Let us look into some of her writing. KC Johnson of Durham in Wonderland has excerpted from some of her posts. This is typical:
This is about race and class and gender in every way, and there’s basically no way this woman was going to see justice. In her part of the country, both women and black people are seen as subhuman objects to be used and abused by white men.

Yeah, I know, Alon. Which is why I’m frustrated that people are pretending ‘can’t identify which one raped her” somehow equals ‘wasn’t raped’. I had some initial confusion about exactly who was assaulting me when I was assaulted, but that doesn’t mean that his hands weren’t actually where they were.
So it is not about evidence. It is about which class you belong to. Well I haved blogged about this particular post myself. Now Ms Marcotte has disappeared it down the memory hole.

Which probably makes her perfect for the Edwards Campaign. Which is all about the class struggle he is waging from his 24,000 sq. ft. mansion with heated swimming pool and when he gets tired and needs a vacation he has an nice vacation home on an island. Kind of like a castle with a moat. Keeps the lower classes out. They want to class struggle? It will have to be from some where else.

So all this has caused a lot of heat. The cover up, such as it is, even more.

Eric of Classical Values is covering Ms Marcotte from a different angle. Her recent blogging duel with James Lileks.

Lie Stoppers is looking at the Edwards campaign aspect. And, the missing posts.

There is also lots in the comments at all the above places. If you don't mind sifting.

I think Marcotte is sunk and so is Edwards.

A nice overview courtesy of Instapundit.

The opinions of Amanda Marcotte.
