The Undone Deal

It seems that the Democrats who control the House of Representatives where spending bills originate are begging the Republicans to sign on to a deal to fix the mortgage mess they helped create. Hank Paulson, Secretary of the Treasury, went to a meeting of the Democrats to ask them to continue their efforts to make a deal.

It was then that Paulson gingerly walked in to beg, "Don't blow this up, please." The secretary feared that Democrats would throw their hands up and declare the deal dead.

The crowd erupted in unison, all barking at Paulson that they were not the problem -- he needed to talk to his own party. Under the barrage, Paulson dropped to one knee, clasped his hands in front of his face as if he were praying and joked: "Please, please, don't blow this up. Give me some time."
So let me get this straight. Democrats who control the House and have enough votes to pass the bill if they can get their party in line need the Republicans to pass the bill? Why? Because it is toxic with the voters in Democrat districts. I live in a Republican district, but let me tell you some of the toxic points for me. First money going to ACORN and La Raza (The Race - nice non-racist name there) and second restrictions on development of American oil resources. Third, nothing is included in the bill to reign in giving mortgages to people who can't afford them.
