Haven't heard from you for a while, Bud! Now I know why!

I support democracy (personal responsibility, freedom of religion, democratic self-determination, informed consent, freedom of THOUGHT) in Iraq.

Keep up the good work!

I do support democracy in Iraq as well as the Rights of Man as Individuals there. Will have to take a look at some graphics or hack one together... there *must* be a purple fingertip involved!

Can I put the graphic in my sidebar now?

Jim C,

Help yourself.

A better graphic is in the works.

It will include a purple finge per A. Jacksonian.

The plain and simple fact is that the United States finds itself mired in a civil war in Iraq, and there's no way we can prevail in somebody else's civil war. The latest NBC/WSJ poll shows that a majority of Americans favor the Democratic position of setting a timetable for withdrawal of our troops.

The Rascal,

What do the Iraqis want?

Eleven Million Purple Fingers say they want to be a democracy.

Should we do what you propose and give in to the violence veto? How liberal of you.

How very enlightening. Would those polled happen to be the same ones who get 98% of their news from the very media who've kept up a four year drumbeat of quagmire, quagmire, quagmire...

Beware of polls and pollsters.

I don't know why I bother, but, here's a little further parsing of Rascal's wisdom:

...the Democratic position of setting a timetable for withdrawal...

decoded:

...the Democrats' proposal for scheduling a surrender...

I keep telling myself, never argue with a liberal when they whip out their "plain and simple facts", but I just can't help myself. Is it masochism?

Has anyone here heard of self-determination. I am not willing, nor am I willing to see my children or my neighbors die so the folks in Iraq can walk around with purple fingers.

Over 200 years ago this country decided to give democracy a try and certain folks committed to fight for that right. We had a little help from some countries but no armies of liberation landed on these shores. Over a 100 years later we had a real wingdinger of a civil war. Again no help. We took care of it ourselves.

If the Iraquis want freedom or democracy let them bloody well fight for it themselves. They'll appreciate it that much more.

One more thing, why aren't you great uber patriots in uniform, simply placing your money where your mouths are.

third herd,

The despotisms of the ME are causing us a LOT of trouble. I think self government is the cure. Kick starting it is in our interests.

As to serving: I got 3 months combat pay in '66. If I was 25 years younger I'd be in uniform. I volunteered then. I'd volunteer now.

BTW just so we can determine if you are allowed to comment on the subject: did you serve?

I take it your position is: not all men are created equal. Some can handle self government some need to be ruled with an iron fist. How liberal.
