The Keys To The Next Election

Cynthia Yockey has some thoughts on why Obama will win the election in 2012.

Last week Allan Lichtman, a professor at American University, renewed his 2010 prediction that Obama will win in 2012. Prof. Lichtman developed a system of 13 keys to winning the presidential election in 1981 that has correctly predicted the winner of the last seven elections. According to Prof. Lichtman, only six keys are needed to win and Obama has nine...
She follows that with the following point.
I think the Left is correct in asserting that the social conservative agenda is identical to a promise to impose theocracy. The inability of the Right to see the totalitarian nature of social conservatism when it is a political agenda to use government force where persuasion has failed mirrors the inability of idealistic Leftists to grasp that you can’t have free markets (aka capitalism) and socialism at the same time because there is no correct way to have a socialist planned economy that isn’t immediately both totalitarian and corrupt.
She got that right.

Go read the whole thing because there is way more of interest.

Who would have thought that the accepted behavior standards of the 1950s constituted a defacto theocracy?

And we are supposed to take such claims seriously?

They may not be serious factually (your opinion).

They are VERY serious politically (fact).

And they are very important to the libertarian muddle (otherwise known as "independents"). You know, the guys that swing elections.

Republicans are so stupid.

BTW the lady writing the quoted is a former Democrat and currently a libertarian social conservative Republican. Kind of odd for a lesbian I admit.

OTOH Stacy McCain is a fan. (he got a heads up on my Drug War stuff yesterday)

I'm a fan of hers too. Her father is a famous scientist. Look him up. Can't remember the first name but the last name is odd enough.

I'm starting to feed my Drug War stuff to the political Ds. (already gave Palin a two day head start).

I sent links this morning to TPM and the President's "Attack Watch".

Oct. 2 - 4 and the following days and months are going to be so much fun.

Enjoy!

Let me add that if social conservatives could see themselves as others see them they would do better politically. In fact IMO they would never lose an election.

Ah. Well. Ignorance is fixable. Stupid it appears is a life sentence.

The Rs aren't called the stupid party for nothing.

If socons would start asking the important questions - like how can we fix this or that without government guns - they would do much better.

These guys get it:

I will ask you something I have been asking for a while. If illegal drug use is mostly caused by child abuse why aren't you working day and night on the core of the problem instead of working the edges?

I have done more in that area with my drug war articles than all the social conservatives I am aware of combined.

It is a wonder.

I don't believe that child abuse is the primary cause of drug addiction. It is caused by the fact that plant toxins designed to kill predators happen to bind with similar receptors in the human mammal. As it was caused by evolution, only evolution can cure it, (as is argued about the "Alcohol gene") but if we waited that long too many people would die.

I think you are just unwittingly trying to remove one of G. K. Chesterton's Fences.

It is a wonder.

My sentiment exactly. :)
