Pot will soon be legal in Illinois
This is outstanding. A Chicago Alderman, and a more honest person you couldn't find, has suggested that taxing the dope trade in Illinois would be a good deal for the city. The Chicago Sun Times has the story.
Just when you thought Mayor Daley's menu of tax increases included just about every item under the sun, a Northwest Side alderman has another novel idea that's certain to raise eyebrows: slap cigarette-style tax stamps on narcotics.Sure thing. Right on Alderman.
Ald. Ted Matlak (32nd) wants to make it perfectly clear that he is not in favor of legalizing marijuana or any other drugs. He simply wants the city to make money off the drug activity that does exist.
So what do you think the police will be doing? Stopping dope sales or making sure the city gets its cut?
Oh yeah. Don't forget Da MayAh wants to fine pot smokers $500 to $1500 depending on?
This is a trial baloon for legalizing drugs in Illinois. When they start proposing semi-realistic taxes the end is nigh.
