You Can't Get There From Here
O'Hare is closed (actually there is one working runway, 200 cancellations so far). However, Rockford Airport is flying to Las Vegas (a good idea if you can get to the airport).
Here in Rockford (about 60 miles from O'Hare), there is already a foot of snow on the ground and with the strong wind the snow plows are useless.
No school today. Many businesses closed. Without four wheel drive you are just another road hazard. Stay home.
We have a snow emergency as of 9AM local time (1500z). Only emergency travel recommended.

It turns out that 38 out of the 38 scheduled flights out of the Rockford Airport went out today including a United passenger flight to Denver. The Rockford Airport is known mainly for its freight traffic (UPS hub) and is the 25th largest airport in America.

Greater Rockford Airport, as it was known then, was also the busiest airport in the US. Busier even than O'Hare. That is, during the annual EAA flyin each summer, before they moved the show up to Wisconsin. :-)
A pit pass to the flight line was a cherished possession of my yute.
