Not According to Plan

Here is an example of AP falling behind the curve. They have a "Republican" vet ready to trot out some trash talk about Bush's National Guard Service. Yet barely noticed is the general conclusion that the documents are forged.

Falling behond the story

Here is a Democrat who hates Bush's use of privledge (based on the evidence of the seemingly forged documents).

Ahmad Majied of Albany says the latest allegations about Bush's military record are more troubling to him than allegations about service honors leveled at Democratic challenger Kerry.

Majied, a Democrat from Albany who served 30 years in the Navy, including five years as a SEAL in Vietnam, said the memos support his belief that Bush was a ``playboy'' during his service years.

``He had enough money to get what he wanted,'' Majied said. ``I think his main concern was not to go to Southeast Asia. I bet he never dreamed it would come back to haunt him.''

My take on all this is still the same: Rather and Kerry/DNC are thick as thieves.

This is not a mistake. It is an operation.

How coordinated is this plan? CBS News and the Boston Globe certainly seem to be working in concert to save the story. According to Michael Moore, "Later today (Wed.), the Boston Globe, the A.P. and Dan Rather all present new and damning information about how George W. Bush got moved to the front of the line to get in the Texas Air National Guard, and how he then went AWOL."

I didn't see the 60 Minutes II story. Did CBS announce the story as a combined effort from the beginning? Or were they only to coordinate the follow-up to keep the story front and center?

More here.

Of course the story wasn't flogged as a combined effort.

The different organizations must appear independent for the story to work. In fact there does seem to be some independence. NBC is saying the documents might be a hoax.

Normally they would go with the ABC lead if the story held any water.
