A Year For Chemicals

The American Chemical Society has announced an International Year of Chemistry. This is a good thing as #1 daughter is studying to be a chemical engineer.

If you have a potential chemistry student in your family you might want to give him/her a head start with a Chemistry Setfrom Amazon.

If you have a potential potential chemistry student, let him or her play (safely of course) with household items-cum-chemistry experiments: baking soda/vinegar volcanoes, red cabbage juice, etc.

I had a science club a while back for my kids and their friends. All the parents told me they were glad I was doing it because they would never have allowed their kids to make that kind of mess in their house. Silently I felt sorry for those kids whose parents were more concerned with how their house looked than their children's education. So let your kids play with science when they're little. It'll solve the problem of getting them motivated to do science when they're older.
