They do know that in No. Carolina the clear cut forest the bewail so much is the trees that replaced the forest that was cut down in the early 19th century don't they? Anyway, any old growth would have died already. Or been burned by Native Americans who burnt forests for farms because they didn't have saws. I doubt there was very much "old growth" in No. Carolina even before European settlement. At least the industrial revolution used the forest products to make great deals of useful stuff. Or it might be that the idiots are just plain stupid.
